The Haves Versus The Have Nots
People have perverted the concept of God. By making God an external, judgmental force, they have paved the way to make the rules of this external God their mission to impose on everyone else.
It's not just the concept of God, but the idea of separation. People want to draw a line in the sand and cast people out of a group to make them feel better about themselves by decrying the evils of those who are different.
Have you ever noticed the religious paths that preach most of an exclusionary God are filled with the most self righteous, cold, judgmental people? They use the excuse that this same God who created everyone now wants to exclude the majority of His creation because they don't follow their faith to the letter. They are so closed-minded that they cannot hear what other paths are saying. They are so in fear that their "truth" can be toppled, they do not want to listen to what might shake their faith, no matter how unreasonable extremes they must take to acheive it.
Racists are in the same boat. They talk themselves up in a fury that they are so much better than others of different races, thus casting out any possibility to relate to others who are different. They dehumanize those who are different to the point that they delight in talk of their distraction. It is the deep down fear of racism that made people accept Hitler's Final Solution to eliminate those they deemed unworthy of life.
Also note how religious fanatics revel in the notion of non believers in a fiery hell. How are they different from the racist who drool over torturing someone of a different ethnic background?
In among the general ranks and file, people are concerned with who is popular and who is not. They may not be in either group, but will spend a lot of time speculating those in the groups. Sometimes it is the rich versus the poor. The republicans versus the democrats. The winners versus the losers. The lists go on.
It always seems someone wants to dream up a new line to separate people. By creating this separation and not accepting people for whom they are, they are blocking any chance they have of transcending beyond the line they built in the sand.
