Miracles happen all the time, but mistaken notions about the power of miracles keep us held back by miracles in the world of science and technology.

If you haven't been a UCPFUL follower and believe in traditional religions, try to dismiss the idea, even if it only just for reading this sermon briefly, that there is some external outside God that is out there guiding life, the universe and everything we know. Where does that leave us if it is true?

Take it one more step. Entertain the idea that not only does that God not exist in the outer world, but is in fact within our own world making us our own god. There is a god force that lies within you making you and god the same. "The Father and I are one."

If you were raised in the traditional Christian/Judeo/Islamic paths, such ideas would be sacrilegious. The very notion of questioning the existence of God and any associated holy works is unthinkable for many in those paths. By sticking fast with such ideas is really holding back the progress of the rest of the world. Why? Because we are our own creators. It is our GOD power within that creates our own miracles. That is the difference between waiting around for something to happen and taking action to create the miracles of your own life.

Put the power into your hands. Don't be afraid. You were born with the instinctive desire to learn more, to do better, to progress, to evolve.

Take miracles. What exactly is a miracle? A discovery. A created invention. A solution to your problem. One ponders what is wrong in their lives and wants to find a correction. That idea that lights up in your head all of a sudden with the path to make that correction is your miracle. That "Eureka!" or "Ah ha!" moment when what you were looking for has come to pass. A miracle is defined as, "A remarkable occurrence," in the Oxford Dictionary.

It is the wanting of creating a miracle that opens our minds up long enough to see everything around us, gather the information we need so we can be guided in the right direction. When we leave that power on something other than the power within us, we can be left hanging for a long time.

Sounds less than satisfying for those who think miracles are merely magic tricks that just show up, but it is more pragmatic. That does not make a miracle less than exciting. Miracles truly are exciting. The fact that the universe settled in the manner it did to form a habitable earth is quite a miracle we should all appreciate.

Imagine back to the 1800s. If someone had a bad heart, they could only wish they would live long enough to hope for a miracle. A person who lost a leg in battle could only hope for a miracle of a crutch to help them get around. A town could only wish for a way to ward off smallpox before it took the lives of all the children.

Thanks to the miracles of science and technology, the person with a bad heart has a chance to survive until they could get a transplant and get medicine in the meantime to help them live longer. A person missing a leg can now have the miracle of a prosthetic leg which looks almost like the real thing to help them get from one place to another. A town is now fully protected from the scourge of smallpox thanks to vaccinations. These are miracles we take for granted. The people 200 years ago would certainly consider it a miracle.

What about in another 200 years? If we do not restrict the creative powers of those who work in the scientific and technology fields and allow them to use their gods within, they may come up with a way for the heart patient and the amputee to grow a heart or a leg from their own cells where it will be just as good as new. The diseases of today could be a thing of the past.

During the so-called Dark Ages, science often came in conflict with religion. When science came up with something new that was a challenge to the old notions of a holy book, it was easier to ban the science than to discount the faith. When people got to the mindset where they were more pragmatic and allowed scientists to practice their skills, more progress was made to improve life for everyone.

Everyone has that creative spirit within. Everyone has that god creator within. We create our own miracles, but if we stick with the idea that these miracles are out of our reach and at the mercy of an outside, invisible being, we impede the progress we could make in our own lives and the lives of others. Some people are writers, singers, actors, builders, teachers, and so forth. It takes all kinds to run the world. It takes a special mindset to enter the fields of science, medicine and technology.

Holy books have a flaw. People who believe in them don't want to see it. These books were written by men who were inspired to write things as they saw them. In their minds, what they wrote was correct at the time.

The problem is we not only physically evolve, but we evolve mentally. The people of the times of the Torah look physically different from the Jews today. It is an evolution. The minds of people have evolved from that time, but there are many hesitant to progress with the natural evolution process.

These holy books have a one-size fits all vision. Their god is never changing, never evolving. This keeps them trapped from real progress. The more pragmatic people following traditional faiths concede to the idea that these books have good kernels of knowledge, but it is not to be taken 100% literally. It would be too awful to entertain the idea that stoning one's children for disobeying them is morally right and other such gems that we as a society have evolved from that point of view. The scary thing are those who go as far to think we should go back to those original teachings.

Science and technology is ever changing. It has to be. Things thought of in one way change when more facts come in. This leads to progress, better skills, and inventions which help us all. These are the fields which create miracles for the greater mankind, not just the miracles we create for our own lives.
