Change Your Thoughts And Behaviour And Make It Happen
There are many books out there on how one thinks and grows to be rich, slim, successful, etc. Many people have bought these books, so one would think there are very many rich, thin and successful people on earth. The problem is most who buy into these books seem to be missing a key element these books do not divulge. Changing your thought is only a start. Changing your behaviour is where the real magic happens.
We all would like instant miracles. Just think about something and it happens right before our eyes, without any effort, plan, or knowledge on how to get from point A to point B. Unfortunately, it is not all that simple.
Don't get me wrong, you MUST change your thoughts if you ever want to get to the place you want to be. Changing your thoughts is the bedrock of success. It puts you in a frame of mind that gets you where you want to be. Without that frame of mind, whenever any setback comes your way, you give up. Without that new mindset, you give into your usual bad habits which sabotage your progress. Without that proper change of thought, you are unable to behave in the way you must to acheive your goals.
There is a saying, "God helps those who help themselves." What does this really mean? Take it to that "Godspace" within. Pray about it. Meditate on it. Do whatever it takes to reach your subconscious tape recorder to put in a new message. Believe it is possible. Then take the proper action with the help of that god within.
Another saying, "WWJD? What would Jesus do?" This is what one who follows Jesus would say if a situation happens and they wish to walk in the same manner of their Lord. They put themselves into his shoes and ask that question before they act.
Changing your mind involves giving yourself that talk to change your faith that the changes you want are possible for even you. You need to reach that part of you wish keeps feeding you the same programme which is holding you back. You need to change that message. You need to believe your new message. You need to focus your mind on the type of person you want to be and the results you want to see. You need to get that new picture of what it is you want and get into a fevered frenzy that this must pass and nothing is more important that your goal. It is when you change your mind in this manner that allows you to do the next step which is what most books do not tell you.
It is good to make a change in your life, but if you have no clues or ideas on how to make it happen, you are lost. You will probably buy book after book trying to find that exact angle you were missing because you changed your mind and followed their advice, but results have failed time and time again. After awhile, you begin to think there is something wrong with you.
Those who become successful with those books often know already how to make the changes in their lives, but before the book they were not properly motivated to make it happen. Those who fail often do not have the knowledge or role model to follow to acheive what they seek. They may have a very basic knowledge of how to get to where they want to be, but they don't have a clue on how to pull it off. Then when a hard situation comes about, they have no examples to recall on how to get through it, get so flustered clear ideas cannot happen and then they give up in frustration. Sound familiar?
Getting into that mindset is crucial to motivate yourself to the goal you want to acheive. It makes the next step easier, but that next step is only easy if you know it is coming. That next step is to start behaving in the manner which is conducive to acheiving your goal.
If your goal is to lose a lot of weight, you can think yourself thin all you want, but if you behave in a manner which defeats that purpose, you will never lose weight.
If your goal is to make a lot of money, you can think yourself rich all you want, but if you behave in a manner which defeats that purpose, you will never be rich.
If your goal is to be successful, you can think of yourself as a success all you want, but if you behave in a manner which defeats that purpose, you will never be successful.
Are you getting the point? Let me break it down even further.
Let's say your goal is to lose 100 pounds in 12 months. It is a realistic goal. Anyone with the right frame of mind could acheive it if they can stay in that mindset, but it takes real action which goes WITH the mindset in order to acheive the goal. Unless you can identify with a thin person, unless you behave as a thin person, unless you can ask yourself, "What would a thin person do?" before you act, then you will revert back to your old habits because you have not changed your behaviour. If you think yourself thin and do not change your behaviour to that of a thin person, you will continue behaving as a fat person and cave under the temptation of eating something you shouldn't or not participating in exercise.
If you think yourself thin, but don't identify yourself with the actions of a thin person, you cannot behave as a thin person would. It is the changed behaviour which brings about results. When you identify with being a thin person, the route to becoming thin gets easier and effortless. You run on automatic pilot and naturally fall into the behaviour pattern of a thin person. Eventually, you get thin.
Thinking yourself thin without identify with being thin will result in frustration. If you cannot get down to your subconscious and change your programme where you can identify with the way you want to be, everything you do to try to become thin will seem like a big hurdle. All obstacles will be more obvious and seem to hard to cross. It is a struggle that doesn't seem like it is worth the effort. Then you chalk it up to something being wrong with you.
What if your goal is to make a lot of money? Perhaps you are in debt and have a lot of expenses, but you want to live a life of luxury. You would love to buy a lot of expensive clothes, cars, boats, travel in style, live in a mansion... Okay, there are people who do live in this manner. What makes them different than you? Unless they inherieted the money, they did something to get to be where they were. They did not just think about it and the money fell into their laps.
Many of those programmes that lead you to believe all you have to do is think of the end fail to tell you that before you get to that end goal, you must do what other rich people did in order to become rich.
If you do not identify with being a rich person in all aspects, you may think you could go in faith on a spending spree or not think about the nagging bills and the money will show up. It doesn't work that way. To truly identify with a rich person, you also have to get into the mindset of how they go about getting the money together to be rich. You need to say to yourself in your daily life, "What would Donald Trump do?"
A person does not become rich by merely saying a mantra, "I am rich." That is not enough to change your subconscious message. Picturing our outcome of being a rich person will go a long way in helping you identify with the mindset of being rich and you need to achieve that level of thinking in order to change your actions. You need to merge your mindset to that of a person who is becoming rich. If you become so motivated to be a rich person, you will DO what it takes to become rich. If you don't know HOW to become rich, you will SEEK out the answers in any way you can so you can get results.
When you are in that proper mindset, it does not seem as much of a struggle to do what it takes to get rich because you are focused strongly on your goal. If you have to do extra work, take extra classes, ask a lot of questions, find a mentor...whatever you have to do becomes clear and urgent that you MUST get it done now. That is the mindset which helps you change your behaviour. Everything else is just wishful thinking and a waste of time.
Why do people who were poor get rich? Here is a story of a poor homeless man named Clinton.
Clinton lived a hard life. His parents were divorced when he was only 5 years old. His mother took custody of him and his 6 brothers and sisters. His mother was hardly ever around because she had to work 2 jobs to support the family as his father would not pay support.
They lived in a run-down housing project with gang activities, drugs and prostitution going on at all street corners. His mother became a drug addict and was neglectful of her family. There was no food in the house or supervision or love. The father had not been seen in years.
At age 15, he fell in with a bad crowd that flashed a lot of money his way and dropped out of school. To get the money would involve illegal activities and the chance of going to jail, getting hurt or killed. As Clintion did not have any other example before him, except the gang members who were driving the nice cars with the nice clothes, that became the model to follow. He followed what seemed to be the easy route to riches and robbed a bank when he was 18 years old. He spent 3 years in prison.
Eventually, his role models failed him. They were either shot or put in prison for life. Clinton did not want to end up like them, but he did not want to just settle with being poor and living in a ghetto. He did not have a good education as he dropped out of school to follow the gang. His mother kicked him out of the house when she was sobering up. His brothers and sisters all went in different directions. He had no one and was homeless on the streets. He was cold and hungry. He hated wearing the same clothes all the time and diving into garbage cans to eat. He hated getting cleaned up in gas station mens' rooms. He hated sleeping with one eye open all the time to ward off any opportunist who would dare take what little he had.
He always had the option to go back to the gang life, but that would mean dying young or doing more prison time. It just was not secure enough for his own long term plans. That option was beneath him.
During the day, he took notice of how the other people lived. There were people with jobs, good cars, families, love, nice clothes, all the things which, in his mind, would make him rich. Even a family living in a government housing project had more than he had at the time.
Clinton decided enough was enough. He no longer wanted to live in the streets. He wanted to live just like other people did and set his mind to doing it. He did have major disadvantages to get to where he wanted. No address. No phone. No money. No clothes good enough to mingle with the general population. Not much of an education. No job experience. Poor hygiene. Just how would Clinton overcome all these obstacles which would keep most people in their place?
He did not even have the luxury of time or private space to meditate on his goal. The burning passion swelled within him out of wanting something better. It was an immediate need.
Clinton changed his mind. It was no longer good enough or tolerable to live his life in that manner. He decided he was better than that life and was focused to overcome that part of his life. He focused to the degree that he could ONLY see what kind of life he wanted and all the things that would have otherwise hold him back were mere formalities.
Clinton offered to do odd jobs for perfect strangers. He got many rejections, but he kept on until he got someone to accept his offer. He was so focused in making some money that he did not let the "No"s discourage him that he was persistant until he got a "Yes." As his mindset changed, he could not hear the rejection. He just moved on until he found opportunity. It felt natural and came easier the more he pursued his goal. The more he practiced, the more confidence he gained and the better he became in approaching strangers for work.
If Clinton became discouraged after his first 10 rejections, he could have easily dismissed his dream of something better, but because he changed the picture of what was good for him, he could no longer tolerate his lot in life so NO was not an option to accept.
When Clinton earned enough money, he rented a cheap apartment, opened a bank account, turned on phone and electric service, and bought some food, furniture, and clothes. He got enough to go on with the next phase of his plan.
Clinton ate a decent meal. He slept well. He got a bath, brushed his teeth, and put on his new clothes. He got the paper and looked through the want ads circling all the jobs which were nearby that he could manage. It did not matter how menial the task, he did not plan to stay on the bottom for long.
After three days of pounding the pavement, Clinton found a job cleaning in a school building near where he used to live as a kid. He barely made minimum wage and took time off to apply for government supplement benefits to help him make ends meet. He was stuck in another rut. His former teachers did not think much of him. The students poked fun of him. His boss got a power trip from being aggressive with his staff. Without a plan,Clinton could be stuck in a dead end job like that one for the rest of his life.
Clinton made up his mind. He wanted more. He wanted a decent salary, enough to buy a home, have a car, and perhaps enough where he felt he could be respectable enough to get a wife.
Although it was hard, Clinton jumped through hoops to work another part time job while finishing his high school diploma. He then applied to a college and filled out as many forms as possible to get all the financial aid he could get to go to school. He did not even see all the rejection notes he got in the mail. He kept pressing forward until he got enough money to pay all of his expenses so he could keep a part time job while getting a degree.
While in college, he applied for as many apprentice positions that were available. Due to his background with a short stay in prison for a felony robbery while in a gang, not too many people were willing to give him a chance. Clinton kept on. He studied hard. He even volunteered in time he made free to learn more skills until his professors saw that he was serious and his gangbanging days were behind him. Eventually, he got an apprentice position which helped pay his further education. His good grades also qualified him for a full scholarship. He was getting so much money coming his way just so he could get an advanced degree.
Upon graduation, Clinton's professors gave him personal recommendations which got him into a secure six figure job. He was making enough money to pay off his bills and buy a home. With most of his goals acheived, he wanted to share his life with someone special, but not someone who was only after him for his money.
Clinton thought really hard about what he wanted in his love life. He wanted someone who was equally educated, but who also understood his background. He wanted someone who was pretty, physically fit, kind, loving, and wanted children. Instinctively, he knew that in order to find that kind of person, he would have to be the kind of person who would attract her.
He spent his free time volunteering at a youth center near where he grew up. He offered to get together a seminar to find some good role models for the kids. Clinton got before the assembly of kids and told the story of how hard he had it as a kid and how he grew to be the man they saw today. Speaker after speaker gave their story. Soon, a lady approached the stage and told a similar story and how she overcame her odds to become a teacher. After the meeting, Clinton introduced himself to her and they hit if off immediately. They dated for awhile as they found out how much they had in common. Eventually, they got married and had children and lived happily ever after.
How do people make it from one rung of life to another in the area of wealth?
They get so fed up with being poor and wanted more than anything else to be one of the rich people. They blocked out all the distractions, no matter how hard they were coming their way. They focused on the goal so hard that it was easy to acheive it because the behaviour became a natural instinct within. Without that natural instinct, everyday patterns would be overwhelming. The focus would be so scattered that solutions and answers are hard to find and follow. Without getting into the mindset of what one wants to be, it becomes impossible to change the behaviour. If the behaviour is not changed, the life remains the same.
We all know smokers. It is so hard to kick the habit. Many smokers have attempted to quit several times only to go back to the habit. Then you get the few of the bunch of smokers who may have tried to quit in the past, but they finally get it in their mind that it MUST STOP NOW!!! Going cold turkey, no patch, no hypnosis, no contemplating their navels, no pep talks, no support groups, nothing!! They just get it in their heads that smoking no longer suits them. The nicotine is still trying to work its way out of their bodies causing discomfort and stress, but the mindset is so strong that they become mere annoyances on the way to the goal. Eventually, the cravings stop and the thought of smoking becomes repulsive. They changed their minds into becoming non-smokers and changed their behaviour. That is where the success can be found. It is the merging of the two.
Ritual changing of your mind can be helpful, but it is not the only way to get there. Rituals include meditation, prayer, repeating mantras and so forth. If you keep up with these rituals consistantly, you will brainwash yourself into the mindset you need to become the person you want to be. For some it can take a few minutes to change their mindset. For others, it could be years.
Emergency or necessity can also be the quickest way to change your mindset. When your path is no longer tolerable and you feel within you a "fight or flight" instinct to change to something better, as if your whole life depends on changing NOW, then you can make those changes overnight.
Both methods reach that subconscious, but the last method is most often the quickest way to see results. However, the last method is often harder to pull off without there being a dire emergency situation to change.
Whichever route you take to reach your subconscious and impress upon it that you want to identify yourself with a new lifestyle, you must be deliberate, consistent, sure and direct. You will know you have clicked the right button when you no longer can settle with what you had before and your new goal seems to be the most important thing to acheive at all costs.
If your goal is losing weight, you know you have hit that right button when the idea of exercise and eating right seems dire for your survival and eating poorly while being a couch potato seems revolting.
If your goal is to be rich, you know you have hit that right button when the idea of saving and investing while working more hours to get more money seem to be a burning desire and the idea of bills piling up and being in debt is unacceptable and must be rid of NOW.
If your goal is to be a successful writer, you have hit that right button if you have a drive to spend hours a day writing, re-writing, and perfecting your book while networking with other writers, meeting with publishers, and learning more about promotion becomes a MUST DO instead of toying around with a story every now and then and hoping your submission will be accepted.
The difference between winners and losers lie in the action. Action is set by your behaviour. Your attitude adjusted helps you behave in the right manner to take the required action to succeed.
If you walk away from this sermon, at least burn that last line above into your mind. "The difference between winners and losers lie in the action. Action is set by your behaviour. Your attitude adjusted helps you behave in the right manner to take the required action to succeed." That is the secret all those books are missing.
