Georgia Lass, or George as she likes to be known, is dead...well, undead. She had a little accident. A toilet seat fell from a space center as it disintegrated and blew her to pieces. When the grim reaper came to touch her, she was in for a surprise. Instead of moving on to another world in some other dimension of the unknown, she was to do her civic afterlife duty as a grim reaper.

While she is waiting for her chance to move on, she is allowed to have a life on earth she would not have otherwise had a chance to live as it was cut so short. In between taking souls of others, she must work a menial office job, the one she had before she died, in order to support herself. At least this time, she got on her boss' good side unlike before she died.

Georgia still has time to check in with her dysfunctional family from time to time, but they no longer see her as their beautiful family member. When she took on the role as reaper, she no longer was to appear as she did when she was alive. Her family thinks it is a complete stranger, but her sister is hopeful this stranger is her dead sister.

When she was alive, her father was having affairs with students [although in the first episode he was depicted as being gay.] Her mother is a high-strung super bitch. Her sister was the one family member she lived to regret neglecting. Once she died, the parents split up and had a series of problems. Georgia was only too glad to leave gifts and aids to help her sister, Reggie.

While having a job in the real world, her main duty was to reap souls. Her boss in that department is Rube, a man who died almost 80 years earlier who left behind a wife and child. He is almost paternal to the whole group of reapers with a philosophy that they are only to be flies on the wall and to never get attached to the world around them. At one point or another, every member will forget that important rule.
