Degrassi Junior High
1-03. The Experiment
Melanie and Kathleen talk about how high school is not what they expected. They thought there would be more things, including drugs. Melanie said if there were drugs around she would do them. Feeling the pressure, Kathleen agrees she would, too.
Yick and Arthur want to try out for the basketball team, but discuss it in class while Mr. Raditch is talking. Mr. Raditch approaches Yick to discipline him, but ignores the fact that Arthur was also talking. Mr. Raditch picks on Yick for being sloppy and disorganized. Yick takes offense and complains to Arthur that Mr. Raditch must have some kind of stereotyped bias against him.
Joey overhears Melanie and Kathleen talking about wanting to find drugs while at a hangout. Joey offers his services as a drug dealer and convinces them to meet him to buy drugs the next day. Little do they know that the drugs he is going to sell them are vitamin pills...[hmmm...where did I see this one again? Oh, yeah, DTNG when Sean switches drugs with vitamins on JT and Toby.] Melanie and Kathleen go around acting high believing they are on drugs.
Arthur is a terrible basketball player and asks Yick to help him with his game. Yick and Arthur devise a plan to see if Mr. Raditch is really biased. Arthur gets Stephanie's papers from the year before and has Yick copy it to turn it in. Yick turns in his work and gets a better grade than Stephanie. He is convinced this proves the bias because the grade should have been exactly the same, so they try it again with another paper that Arthur has to blackmail his sister in getting it.
Melanie and Kathleen approach Joey with a few friends who also want the drugs. With pleasure, he is happy to supply them with the pills...[now we know why they have Joey in DTNG selling used cars...] All the kids act high. However, later Stephanie approaches Joey to chew him out after hearing the rumor he was selling drugs. He assures Stephanie is wasn't drugs, but vitamins. Melanie and Kathleen overhear the conversation.
The next day in Mr. Raditch's class, he hands back the assignment papers and caught Yick cheating because he distinctly remembered is was Stephanie's and asks how he go it. Arthur confessed to giving it to him. They both get detention and are required to write a paper about why they did it and why it was wrong. Yick is upset and refuses to write the paper, but Arthur tries to set him straight and tells him to try and act smart and maybe Mr. Raditch will stop acting that way.
Melanie and Kathleen and other kids catch up with Joey demanding their money. He doesn't have it and they get even.
Mr. Raditch read the paper Yick gave him about stereotypes to the class and told him after class it was really good. They made a truce as Mr. Raditch promised to stop calling him names as long as Yick promised to try harder in class. As Yick catches up to Arthur to practice basketball, they go down the hall and hear someone banging on the door in the broom closet where they were held before in the first episode. They find Joey in there clad in only his underwear and lock the door again.
