Caitlin is having weird dreams about her favorite teacher, Ms. Avery. Her teacher calls her to the front of the class and she sits on her lap as they look lovingly at each other. She wakes up to discover it was only a confusing dream and starts to wonder about her own sexual orientation.
Kathleen is spreading rumors about their teacher Ms. Avery being a lesbian. She talks about how she never sees her with a man and is always with a woman. Caitlin and Melanie both doubt the claims and warn her about spreading such rumors.
Arthur and Yick do their report for Ms. Avery and are complimented on the job they did, in spite of the sloppy presentation. She lets the class know that Caitlin and Susie will be the next to do the presentation. At the locker, Arthur and Yick talk and everything comes spilling out of Yick's locker as Arthur explains how his presentation on Neighborhood Watch makes him want to fight crime when he grows up. Yick is still looking through the wreckage of his locker and cannot find the $20 his father gave him to buy shoes. Arthur decides to take on the case of finding the missing money when luck would have it that their main suspect, Rick, is wearing a new shirt and giving away licorice. Rick is telling everyone he won $100 in a lottery, but Arthur and Yick find it kind of suspicious.
At the sleepover at Caitlin's house, the girls are making prank calls to their teachers. Caitlin pulls out Ms. Avery's name from the hat and has to make a call, but is hesitant. She calls, but Ms. Avery was not home. Kathleen asked who answered the phone and Caitlin tells her it was a woman. Again, they speculate that she is gay. Kathleen mentions she saw Ms. Avery and a woman holding hands on King St and that was further proof she is gay.
Arthur dust Yick's locker for fingerprints in hoping to find the one who may have stolen his money. Rick comes by again still giving away licorice. He becomes their main suspect and they follow him all over to see if he will slip up.
Kathleen noticed Ms. Avery come out of a car and kissed the woman she is usually with on the cheek. This further proves to Kathleen that she must be gay. She tries to push this claim on her friends and more are starting to wonder if Ms. Avery really is gay. Caitlin is worried because she still keeps having these weird dreams about her that get more and more intense. Caitlin tries to defend Ms. Avery, but behind her back Kathleen suspects that perhaps Caitlin is gay. Kathleen warns Susie to watch out for Catilin in the darkroom when they try to finish the presentation or she might do something to her.
Rick is fed up with Arthur and Yick following him around. He is in the restroom and notices them hiding in the stall and throws them some licorice in hopes of getting them off his trail.
Later on, Caitlin and Susie are working on the project of developing pictures. Susie is very talkative and Caitlin wonders what's wrong because she never talks that much. Susie asks Caitlin if she is a lesbian. Caitlin is stunned, but Susie says she is just confused. Caitlin says she is confused, too.
The next day, Rick catches Arthur and Yick and asks them why they were following him. They tell him they were missing money and because of the rumors of him they though he may have "borrowed" the money. Rick warns them to stop following him around. They go back to their lockers and Yick has another landslide. He finds the $20 that was missing.
In class Ms. Avery gives Caitlin a friendly touch, but is abruptly told not to touch her. When class is dismissed, she asks Caitlin to stay after class. Kathleen walks out smug saying, "I knew she was gay."
Ms. Avery wants to know what was wrong. Caitlin explains the rumor circulating about Ms. Avery being a lesbian because she is always with that woman. Ms. Avery explains that was a person who shares her apartment. Caitlin says her friend saw her holding hands with a woman on King Street and Ms. Avery explains that her friend must have a very wild imagination. Caitlin says her friend saw her kiss another woman and Ms. Avery explains that she kisses a lot of her female friends. Then Caitlin says she was having some weird dreams and started to wonder if she was a lesbian herself, but Ms. Avery explains that it was perfectly normal to have those kinds of dreams at her age and it did not mean she was a lesbian, but just going through a period of confusion.
