1-07. The Best Laid Plans

The bell rings and on the way out, Joey is yet again flirting with Stephanie [dressed in one of her super slutty outfits -- I only know my parents would kill me if I went to school like that] who is less than interested in him, but spots someone else who strikes her fancy - Wheels. She wants to approach him and tells Joey to go away. When Joey leaves, she apologizes for to Wheels for their last dating disaster and would like to try again. He accepts her invitation to a movie on a Friday. Wheels seems to be quite excited as Stephanie walks away. Stephanie is excited to notice his reaction.

Joey is by the water fountain waiting for Wheels to come by and ask what Stephanie wanted. He tells Joey that she wants another date. Joey comments on how they could sit back and neck. Wheels tells him he knows he has a crush on Stephanie, but she likes him instead. Joey tells him "She's yours man, no problem." As Shane and Wai Lee walks down the hall, he tells them about Wheel's date with Stephanie. They all make comments about her being "a sex machine" which Melanie and Kathleen overhear the conversation and laugh.

Stephanie goes to the restroom where she runs into Voula and tells her about her date with Wheels, but Voula is less than interested in hearing about it. Stephanie asks when is she ever going to forgive her as she has apologized many times, but Voula walks out on her. As Voula walks out Erica and Heather walk in and ask what went on with Wheels and she tells them about her date on Friday. She says she is glad he is willing to look past the last date where she ruined it by getting drunk, but plans to make this one great as he is "so sexy."

Yick and Arthur are going to Yick's locker, but Arthur wants to know the secret. Yick pulls out a video Swamp Sex Robots, a porno tape he borrowed from his brother, but his brother doesn't know he borrowed it. Yick tells him they can't watch it at his place as his grandmother is always around. Arthur is supposed to be at his mom's house, but thinks her vcr might be broken. He says he will think of something.

In the bathroom again, Stephanie tell Erica and Heather what she plans on wearing on her date, something really sexy. Heather reminds her that her mother won't be too happy if she dressed up like she does in school, so what will she do? [Quick change to Stephanie going to the pharmacy where she comes to see her mom at work] Stephanie overhears her mom talking on the phone making plans for a big date with Michael at 7 on Friday for Italian food. This news obviously makes Stephanie happy. Stephanie asks who's Michael and her mom tries to explain that she has been divorced for a long time and it was time she started to date, but Stephanie cut her off because she was so happy for her as it was time she started dating. Her mom seemed surprised. Stephanie asked about him. Her mom says she doesn't know him very well, but seems nice and is always in the store with a cold and is cute in his own way. Her mom is relieved that Stephanie is handling it okay, but is worried how her brother will take the news.

Back at school the next day, Yick is at the locker with Arthur and Yick asks why he never told him that Stephanie was his sister. Arthur says he just never got around to it. Stephanie walks by and Arthur tries to talk to him, but she tells him to buzz off. He tells her she can't pretend he's not her brother forever. She says it's nothing personal, it's just to keep a certain image - she doesn't talk to grade 7s. He reminds her that grade 7s are people, too. Arthur asks if she and her mom are going out this weekend and Stephanie tells him they both have dates. Arthur and Yick are excited as Stephanie walks away and they make plans to see the movie.

Stephanie sits at a table in the library with Erica and Heather and they talk about the date wondering how it will go and what will she do if he makes the moves on her. Stephanie says she just might let him. Shane and his friend overhear Stephanie as she claims she has been on dates before and would do anything.

In the boys restroom Joey and Wheels are talking when Shane and Wai Lee come in and tell Wheels he is going to make it with Stephanie as they overheard that she has plans and that she can handle it. Wheels seems a bit overwhelmed but says if she wants it he will give it to her. The boys then say, "All the way with Stephanie Kaye." They don't know that Arthur is in the stall and hears everything they are saying about his sister.

In Raditch's class, as he goes on about double negatives, Stephanie tries to talk to Wheels, but he isn't paying attention until she drops a book and gets the whole class' attention. To that Mr Raditch tells her, "I don't have no time to waste." She bends down to pick up the book and slips a note to Wheels to meet her at her house at 7:30. Then the rumor flies around class that Wheels is going to make it at Steph's. As they leave the class, Heather and Erica talk about this date. Heather thinks she should cancel the date, but Erica thinks she is being a prude, if Stephanie were to cancel, Wheels would never go out with her again. They ask what Stephanie thinks [Come on! It is her date, shouldn't she be more concerned than her friends?], but she says sex is no big deal besides, she likes him. Voula approaches them and calls Stephanie the school sleaze.

When Heather, Erica and Stephanie walk past Kathleen and Melanie, they talk about the rumor of Stephanie and Wheels. Kathleen disapproves, but Melanie thinks it's okay if she really loves him. Kathleen says sex isn't wrong, it's just sex before marriage that's wrong. Melanie says lots of people do it. Kathleen says that doesn't make it right and she is saving herself for marriage.

Wheels is walking along with his dad while they walk the dog and asks how old he was when he first had sex. He said he was a lot older than him. Wheels asks if he was nervous and how did he know what to do. His father asks him to sit down on a nearby bench. He explains sex isn't something you do for fun, that it's complicated and comes with responsibilites. He tells him 14 is too young and he has lots to do without having to be weighed down with sex at this point in his life.

At home, Stephanie asks her mom when was the first time she had sex. Her mom gave the classic look of shock as she dropped the food off her fork and Stephanie backed off from the question. After an awkward pause, her mom offers a chance to talk, but Stephanie declines. Her mom wants to talk to her about the facts of life, but it embarasses Stephanie who claims she knows all the stuff already.

At school, Joey comes up to Wheels excited that tonight's the big night and asks if he has protection. Voula overhears the conversation and storms off completely upset to talk to Stephanie who is in the restroom applying her daily coat of Tammy Faye Baker makeup and asks if she really plans on having sex with Wheels. Stephanie feels she must because she messed up one date and wants him to like her. Voula apologizes for calling her a sleaze.

After school Joey and Wheels go to the pharmacy where Stephanie's mother works to buy condoms. Wheels doesn't think it is a good idea, but Joey puts the pressure on him to perform as the guys are counting on him. Joey obnoxiously talks loudly about the condom choices and summons for help from the lady behind the counter whom they don't know is Stephanie's mom. And of course, the dirty look by someone in the store who heard the conversation of the condoms. Stephanie's mom hands him phamplets about family planning and STDs.

On the way home, Arthur tells Yick he will let him know when his house is safe to come over. Yick asks if it is okay to invite others and Arthur says it's fine. Arthur comes inside and hides the video tape when he sees Stephanie and asks what time is her date. Then shows concern about the rumors he heard around school. She says it's her date and she will do whatever she wants. He tells her it may only be part time, but he is still her brother and he cares what people say about her. She is touched, but claims she can take care of herself. Their mom comes home and they greet her. She tells Arthur about her date and he asks what time and excuses himself to make a phone call. He calls Yick to be at his mom's house at 7:45.

Wheels is at home getting ready for his date, but stops to read the phamplets.

Back at the Kaye house, they are sitting down for dinner. The mother asks what the kids had planned for the evening. Stephanie says she is going to the movies with some friends. Arthur says he'll just watch tv. Their mom talk about a boy who was not much older than Stephanie who came into the store who was planning on becoming sexually active and she thought it was time they both knew about the facts and went to give them some phamplets to read. Stephanie doesn't think she should have to read them and Arthur says he isn't sexually active yet, but their mom insists they both read it. The kids are in a hurry to clean up all of a sudden.

Wheels starts to leave for his date. His dad reminds him about their earlier conversation. Wheels steps out with condoms in hand and goes to buy flowers for his date.

Stephanie is getting ready while reading the phamplets dressed in her secret manner then her mom knocks on the door and she has to hide what she is wearing. Arthur is anxiously watching the time and looking at the cover to the movie. He quickly hides it when his mom comes into the room. Arthur comments to his mom about her date being late. Wheels arrive to Stephanie's house as her mom's date drives up to the home at the same time. They give each other a weird look and come to the door. Arthur groans when he sees them. Arthur rushes to get the door. Wheels asks what Arthur is doing there. Arthur whispers he's too early. Ms. Kaye comes downstairs to see who is at the door and recognizes Wheels from earlier. She realizes what's going on and yells for Stephanie. As Stephanie comes down the stairs, her mom gets a glimpse of what she was wearing and orders both her and Wheels to come to her. Arthur says, "Goodbye Sex Robots." Stephanie's mom opens the robe and finds out what her daughter was wearing then says she doesn't know exactly what they had planned but as he bought what he bought and she looks like a tramp, she was going to find out. She cancels her date with Michael who is understanding and promises to call her. She sits Wheels and Stephanie on the sofa and make them talk about what's going on, but before she can get a word out of them, Arthur's friends show up to watch the porno which Stephanie, their mom and Wheels overhear. Arthur quickly closes the door and grins.

The next day at school, Stephanie is walking with Voula. She tells Voula her mom was angry and lectured her for hours about lying and stuff and is grounded for 2 weeks, but she is relieved she didn't have to do anything with Wheels. Joey comes up to Wheels and asks about their big date and he tells him nothing. Joey is surprised, but Wheels says Steph and his dates don't work out so good. Joey asks if they are going to go out anymore, but Wheels says no, they will just be friends. Joey then confirms with Wheels if she is now available and runs off. Voula asks Stephanie if she was really going to do anything with him, but she doesn't answer.
