1-09. What A Night!

Lucy is at the store and eyes a scarf. She looks around and takes it. Evidently, she has a regular bad habit.

Stephanie hears about a book signing for one of her favorite soap stars, Damon King from Days Of Passions who was selling his book Confessions Of A Soap Star for $14.95. Heather and Erika were also great fans of the soap and would watch it during study hall despite the way the boys would poke fun of it.

Lucy was called in to see Mr. Raditch after class. He was concerned about her low grades and asked if anything was wrong at home. She assured him all was well. Lucy arrived in study hall late and Voula asked what Raditch wanted. After discussing what went on, Voula offered to help Lucy with her work so she wouldn't fail.

Lucy and Voula studied, but Lucy was obviously bored and didn't care. Lucy's mother called to let her know she would be at a meeting and would be an hour late. Lucy's father was also going to be late. She no longer felt like doing work and offered to give Voula a makeover. Suffering from the no-parent pity syndrome [reminding me of DTNG with Jimmy], she tries to talk Voula in staying longer, but Voula insists she must go and have dinner with her family. She gives Voula the scarf she stole earlier claiming she had a lot of them.

The next day, they take a test in class. Lucy is confident as Mr. Raditch reads out the spelling words including paralysis, corroborate, and hierachy [gee, those Canadian school systems have a one up on the Chicago Public School system's grade 8!]

Stephanie prepares to go to the book signing and Heather and Erika go with her. The girls are all excited, but Heather admits it is a bit silly to think that such a big star would even care about them. When they get to the signing, Stephanie has Damon sign her copy of the paper which announced his book signing and tells him she is a big fan. He asks how old she is and she lied and told him she was 16 even though she was really 14. He then gave her a kiss on the cheek. Heather and Erika were excited for Stephanie, but Heather grew concerned when she noticed the signature also included his phone number.

Lucy passes the test. As a way to thank Voula, she offers to take her shopping for new clothes. Voula doesn't know that Lucy has a shoplifting habit.

Heather, Erika and Stephanie go to a pay phone to call up Damon after school. Heather warns Stephanie not to do it because it's not a good idea to talk to strangers, but Erika and Stephanie thinks she is just being a jealous prude. Stephanie claims she knows a lot about him because she sees him all the time on tv and reads about him a lot. Heather is worried, but they ignore her and call him anyway. He agrees to meet Stephanie later that night.

Voula and Lucy go shopping. Lucy tries to get Voula to find something she likes. When she sees something, Voula is shocked when Lucy shoves it in her bag and tells her to put it back. Lucy assures her its okay, besides the stores expect these losses anyway. Lucy doesn't know a store detective is watching them. Voula argues with Lucy and insist she puts it back, but Lucy ignores her advice and tries to get Voula to leave the store with her. Instead of staying behind and refusing to leave the store with Lucy, she follows her. Voula is still complaining about stealing so Lucy hands her the bag and insists she takes it back if she feels so strongly, but it was too late as the detectives had them cornered on the escalator.

Lucy and Voula are pulled into the office to wait. The clerk lectures the girls on why it is so wrong to shoplift, but Lucy blows it off. Voula is scared, but Lucy assures her all they have to do is pretend they are sorry and they will be let off with a warning. Voula wonders how she knows so much and Lucy lies and says it's not like she does it all the time. Then the cop comes in and says, "You again."

Stephanie meets up with Damon and gets into his car. They drive around and he finds a dark place by a motel to park. Stephanie gets nervous and insist they leave, but Damon tells her to relax. As she gets more tense, he tells her she must know what this is all about and tries to get a bit too friendly with her. She steps out of the car and starts yelling for him to get away from her. He goes up to her to get her to calm down so no one would hear them. She then tells him she is only 14 and she told all of her friends she went out with him. He rushed back in his car and pulled out leaving her behind. Stephanie has to make a difficult call to her mother. [Another lesson learned in DTNG by Emma who goes off with someone she met on the Internet despite her friends warning.]

Meanwhile, at the police station, Voula is angry with Lucy. Voula's parents arrive and are not happy and tell her she is to have no more Lucy. Lucy is charged and her parents cannot be tracked down so she will have to stay.

The next day, Stephanie tells Heather and Erika about what happened and how she had to tell her mother. They realized how lucky she was that nothing worse happened.

Voula was very angry with Lucy and when Lucy tried to talk to her, she told her she was not allowed to speak to Lucy anymore. Lucy told Voula she was in trouble and her parents called her a spoiled, selfish child and they needed to take family counseling, if her parents could ever find the time. Feeling sorry for her, Voula offered to help her with her work and said perhaps her parents will understand once they stop being angry.
