Lucy has a party at her house with no parents around. Spike and Shane go into a bedroom to avoid rude remarks by Joey and Wheels while they were making out. Heather and Erika have to leave because it was getting late and try to speak to Spike before they go. They try to open the door to get Spike to answer, but the door was locked and they weren't talking.
On the way to school, Spike and her mother are arguing in the car. Spike is kind of cranky and her mom asks what's going on with her lately. She enters Mr. Raditch's class late and he scolds her of her recent pattern of being late. As class lets out, Shane tries to talk to Spike, but she won't speak to him. Joey and Wheels asks Shane what really happened at the party, but Shane smiles and avoids the question. The corner him in the bathroom and he still is tight-lipped about what went on.
Melanie and Kathleen were talking about horoscopes at their lockers and then started talking about hickies. Kathleen thought they were gross, but Melanie said she wanted one because it would probably mean it would get her a boyfriend. At school the next day, Arthur notices Yick has a crush on Melanie. Arthur offered his vast knowledge of women to help Yick get Melanie.
Spike confides in Heather and Erica that she thinks she is pregnant. They convince her to either go to a clinic or buy a kit, but she is reluctant and doesn't want to talk about it. Later, Spike goes to the hair salon where her mother works [and in DTNG, Spike becomes a hairdresser as well.] Spike asks her mom about something her friend said about not being able to become pregnant the first time a woman has sex, but is disappointed to learn that 1 in 5 girls get pregnant the first time. She discusses other myths with a customer who was recently talking about a friend who was expecting her 6th child. Spike's mother told her customer how she only wish someone had talked to her before she had Christine [Spike's real name] at 17 [and in DTNG, Spike will return with Emma, her daughter].
Heather and Erika come with Spike to get a kit at the pharmacy and she goes home to try it. Her mom asks her to eat dinner, but Spike says she's not hungry. Her mom sees the bag and asks what's in it. In a non-discrete way which was bound to cause suspicion, she panics and tells her mother it is none of her business.
After much confusion, he asks her to go skating.
