Joey is in a jewerly store looking for that perfect ring while graduation is taking place and Caitlin, Snake, Lucy, Spike and the gang are about to get diplomas while Bronco films the event. Wheels is making a deal to get a heap of junk car at the same time.

After the ceremony, Lucy, of course, has a big party at her home and most of the regulars are there. It turns out Caitlin took an extra course to graduate early. Snake is supposed to work as a lifeguard during the summer. The love birds, Simone and Alexa are getting married right away Oct 19. Tessa Campenelli is disgusted with Todd who is getting stoned with her ex-boyfriend Yick. Joey proposes to Caitlin who turns him down, but he tells her to keep the ring as a graduation present.

Joey gives Tessa a ride home. They find out they will be working near each other during the summer. As Joey struggles to open the door for Tessa, they end up in a liplock.

The day after, Lucy and Caitlin talk about Joey's proposal. She feels bad that she hurt him and considers her options to stay in town. Lucy had plans with Caitlin that they were going to be roommates in the same university. She tries to talk some sense into her and Caitlin decides to give Joey the ring back.

Joey is working at the drug store when Tessa walks in as a surprise while he is labelling goods. She thanks him for the ride and asks to go out with him. Joey hesitates, but agrees to go to the movies with her after he helps to tow Wheel's car away. As Tessa leaves, Caitlin approaches him and apologizes for hurting him. Joey assures her it's okay and he understands and refuses to take back the ring. They agree to be back to normal. Then Caitlin excuses herself to go back to work as Joey ponders the phone number Tessa left in his hand.

Snake's first day on the job and he falls right into the pool lusting after ladies walking by.

Wheels is optimistic that the new car will be the great start of a new life. Joey tells Wheels he is going on a date with Tessa and it's no big deal. As Joey tries to tow the car, the bumper falls off and the car tries to run away.

Caitlin is working as a waitress, getting the orders confused as Joey and Tessa are on their date. They left the movies to go out for pizza and are having a good time. Tessa is being quite forward in suggesting something to do to pass time. They end up in the backseat of Joey's car getting busy.

The next day, Tessa shows up late at work as Spike is on the phone having daycare problems. Tessa tells about the good time she had with Joey. She warns her to be careful because Joey and Caitlin are always on and off. Simone and Alexa show up making a pitstop in all their wedding plans.

Joey and Wheels talk about the date and brags about getting to third base, but stopped because Caitlin is still his girl.

Snake still continues to be a klutz who only attracts little girls who think he is so cute.

Caitlin discusses what she is going to do at university with Joey and he tries to get her to not worry so much. Joey is going too fast for her and she puts a stop to it. She says she's just not ready. He asks when he can see her again and is disappointed that their schedules conflict.

Joey goes home and his mom asks how the movie went. He said it was boring. A call comes and it's Tessa. She just called to say hi and asks if he wants to go out sometime. They make a date for Saturday and she invites him over to her house. He accepts.

Joey shows up at Tessa's home with flowers. At the same time Caitlin is working and fumbling with her orders. [She is so in the wrong business.]

Tessa is trying to finish dinner and it is a disaster. The pasta bowls over and the bread burns, spaghetti is all over the floor, the smoke alarm goes off and they have a food fight which end in a kiss. Before you know it, they are rolling around on the sofa. She stops him and asks if he brought a condom. He reaches over to pull one out. As they are getting busy, he seems more interested in disrobing her than opening it.

At the pool, a girl asks if they offer swimming lessons. He flirts with her and then realizes she wanted lessons for her young daughter.

Snake complains to Wheels about his bum luck at getting girls at the pool who are either married or have boyfriends. Joey showed up at the shop to brag that he was no longer a virgin and got busy with Tessa. Snake seems surprised and shocked that he would cheat on Caitlin.

Tessa talks with Spike about their date and she worries that he might think she is easy. She is hopeful that since Caitlin will be away at college, she will be Joey's boyfriend next year.

Caitlin still continues to do a poor job at work while Joey is getting closer to Tessa and Snake continues he bad luck streak at the pool and Wheels works on his car.

Caitlin made plans to be with Joey, but work kept her from seeing him. He had no problems going to see Tessa and they had a good time until her parents showed up and she had to shoo him out the back door.

On the side, Joey still was seeing Caitlin when he could. Caitlin spoke with Lucy and said she thought she was ready to move forward with Joey and she gave her safe sex advice, not knowing Tessa continued to get busy with Tessa.

At the end of summer, Snake complained that it was a bummer summer while Joey bragged about the great amount of sex he had. Snake gets on Wheels about his drinking on the job and he resents it. Snake thinks Joey should break up with one of the girls before someone gets hurt. Finally, Wheels get the car started and says they should go for a ride. Snake doesn't really want to as Wheels had been drinking, but it is only around the block, so the three get in.

Spike is worried how she will handle university with a child. Tessa is complaining she is sick [like we don't know where that will lead] and Spike told her to go home. Simone and Alexa show up for the pictures for the wedding shower.

Joey brags about what a great summer it is. Snake is cautious and insists Joey break up with someone.

Tessa goes to the clinic for a pregnancy test and it is positive. She wants an abortion and plans on making an appointment.

At work, Tessa shows up to ask why he won't take her to Bronco's party. She asks if they can go out the next day, but Joey says he is going to celebrate his birthday with is parents [a lie, he is going out with Caitlin]. He says maybe next week. She is upset and thinks he is embarassed to be with her and doesn't like her. She says she just needs to talk to him and he blows her off and pushes her birthday present at him, a shirt that says, "Naughty and Nice."

The next morning, Joey wakes up to the sound of an alarm and his mom pushes him up the rest of the way. It is his 18th birthday and she is so proud of him. She has an envelope and told him as a present he no longer had to worry about those car payments because it had been taken care of.

Caitlin is getting ready for her date with Joey as her parents are on their way to Montreal. Caitlin is planning for a safe evening with Joey and tucks a condom away in her purse. They go out to a fancy restaurant for his birthday. Caitlin asks if he wanted to go to Bronco's cottage to help set up for the party. Joey says he is going up with Wheels whose car was just certified. Joey is happy that he didn't get carded when ordering wine. Caitlin proposes a toast to him and they drink. She tells him that she is alone at home and throws hints at him that she hates to sleep alone. He is a bit dense at first and she spells it out to him and hands him a condom.

At Caitlin's home, they went through with it and she is crying. Joey tries to comfort her. Then he says he has to go before his parents kill him. She can't believe he is so calm thinking he is still a virgin. Caitlin announces to him that she might stay in town. She moves the ring to her left hand thinking she has a future with him.

In the morning, Joey's mom grills him about coming in late last night. Tessa called while he was out. His mom senses something is going on. Then the phone rings and it is Tessa again. He doesn't want to speak to her, but she hands him the phone anyway. Tessa caught on to his lie that he went out with his parents. Aparently, she wanted to sing him happy birthday on his answering machine, but she talked to his mom instead. She said he had no idea of what he had done, she hated him and never wanted to see him again. He tries to call back, but she won't answer.

Caitlin and Lucy are helping to load up Bronco's car. They talk about how the date went and she plans on staying and being engaged to Joey. Lucy warns her not to sacrifice her future for a guy. Lucy is upset about her decision and it alters her plans for housing at university.

Wheels and Joey are waiting for Snake and Joey is upset that he messed things up with Tessa. Snake finally comes out and they head on the road. Wheels can't wait to get away from his grandparents. Snake finds out that he had sex with Caitlin and broke up with Tessa and thinks Joey is a pig.

The gang is all at Bronco's party having fun. Caitlin greets Joey and says they have to talk, it's serious. He asks what's wrong and she informs him that she has moved the ring to her other finger and they are engaged, she is going to university in town.

At the clinic, Tessa shows up for an appointment.

Joey walks out of the room to introduce his fiancee to his friends. Snake and Lucy are not happy. Snake almost blurts out his secret as Joey eggs him on about not having experience with girls. Wheels tries to assure Joey that he has everything going for him, even if he doesn't have a girl. Snake gets on Wheels about his car and they get in a fight. Lucy and Bronco break it up and Lucy insists Wheels take her out so he can cool off.

Wheels is still drinking, even as he is about to drive. They take off and Lucy is trying to calm him down about Snake's weird mood.

Alexa is arguing with Simone about not wanting to go along with all the wedding festivities, it's not that he doesn't want to get married, but Alexa sees it otherwise.

Snake is trying to cool off away from people and Joey tells him to back off on his secret. Snake is upset at how he thinks he is the man by going out with Tessa and Caitlin. She walks in and hears that he had been sleeping with both of them. Caitlin is none too pleased. Snake walks off.

Caitlin was more than upset that Joey was not a virgin when they had sex the first time. He said it just happened, she asked him out when she was too busy. Caitlin wanted to know how long he had been seeing her and he told her most of the summer. She takes off his ring and locks herself in a room. Joey begs her to open the door and apologizes.

As some of the girls are on the boat, it turns over and Alison is drowning. Snake rushes out to help and saves her. Everyone applauds him for being a hero.

Bronco wonders where is Lucy and Wheels, they should have been back by now. There was an accident. Wheels is bashed up and bloody, but a child had died and Lucy hurt badly, and someone needed to be but out of the car which is catching fire. Wheels is escorted away by the cops for drunk driving.

Joey comes to visit Wheels at jail and they speak through a phone window. Wheels has been charged with criminal injury causing death, 2 counts with injury and drunk driving. Wheels says it is not his fault the kid wasn't wearing a belt or that Lucy wanted to go out. He doesn't understand why Snake won't take his calls.

Bronco is at Lucy's bedside as Caitlin shows up with flowers. They don't know if she will see or walk again. Bronco feels guilty for letting her go with Wheels. Lucy is asleep and Caitlin approaches her cautiously. She wakes up and they talk. Lucy doesn't want to be blind. Caitlin is upset things turned out the way they did.

Snake is on his way to college as Joey comes up to him. He mentions that he saw Wheels and wants to know why he won't see him. It's because the kid is dead and Lucy is messed up and it is all his fault for driving drunk.

Snake tries to apologize for blurting out his secret. Snake can't wait to leave. Joey tries to beg him to talk to Wheels, but has his mom drive off.

Simone and Alexa finally tie the knot. There is a big party. They talk to their friends about their great new apartment and a new life ahead.

Erica is in the Dominicans with a new boyfriend, Carlos and is teaching English. Spike is going to university while Emma is in Jr Kindergarten. Snake finally has a girlfriend with him, Pam. He sees Joey and says hi. They have an awkward conversation and he offers to introduce him to her.

Wheels has a trial coming up and he is pleading guilty and looking at a long time in prison. Joey tries to convince Snake to speak to him. Snake says one of these days he might.

Lucy is getting better and is getting her sight back. Joey sees Caitlin talking with Spike and comes over to talk. Spike excuses herself. Joey tries to apologize for hurting her. She said he did her a favor and going away was something she needed to do. He is no longer speaking with Tessa.

BLT announces the bride and groom, Mr. and Mrs. Dexter and they dance. Joey and Caitlin wonder if they are going to make it. Then Caitlin asks Joey to dance, as old friends. He wonders if they would have lasted, but they will never know and can't go back.
