 is sort of an under achiever [think Bart Simpson without the criminal brattiness, though Michael is a whiny brat at times.] He never finished community college and was stuck in a dead end job until he decided to take over a comic book store. He loves and cares for his mother and uncle Vic. |
Brian Kinney (Gale Harold)
 is a hot shot ad executive who prides himself on his own good looks [quite vain], but also his total honesty [he will tell you things that may come out cold and cruel, but what you need to hear - no holds barred.] The only thing he is less than upfront about is his feelings for a younger man who is a reminder of himself at that age. He recently let Justin walk out of his life during the comic book Rage party so Justin could find the love he claimed to want. He has a child by his best friend Lindsay with whom he went to college and knew as a kid.  just turned 18 and is in love with Brian, always trying to get him to just admit it. He was attacked by a homophobic classmate who left him in a coma which almost cost him his dreams of being an artist, but had recovered thanks to Brian being at his side. He left Brian who could not show him the love he wanted to go to Ethan who was interested in a permanent relationship. |

 is a flamboyant sweetheart and social butterfly who would fight for his friends to do the right thing.  is a full time mother/teacher and living with her wife, Melanie. Lindsay is from a "WASP" family that frowns on her lesbian relationship with a Jewish lesbian. She is the type who wants to make the best of any bad situation. |
Melanie Marcus (Michelle Clunie)
 is a lawyer and very vocal about stepping up to defeat anything that is wrong or illegal. Not much has been disclosed about her upbringing yet, but it should be interesting as time goes on. A type A personality for sure! |
Jennifer Taylor (Sherry Miller)
 is Justin's mother. Recently divorced and trying to make it as a single parent strongly supports her son, but is struggling at times to understand him. |
Vic Grassi (Jack Wetherall)
is Debbie's older brother who lived with her because his is sick with AIDS until he met his boyfriend and they moved out. He used to be a caterer and was once as sexually active as Brian, but the illness caught up with him. He dies in season four. |
Debbie Novotny (Sharon Gless)
 is a hard working waitress in a local restaurant which homosexuals frequent. She worked hard as a single parent to raise Michael and took in Justin when he left home due to a homophobic father. Now she must come to terms with issues stemming from losing her brother, her feelings for a man who is already taken, and loneliness. |

Michael's current boyfriend who happens to be a college professor who teaches about the homo-erotic themes of comic books and is HIV+. |
